Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O. Announces First Solo Album

Crush Songs will be released on Julian Casablancas‘ record label

Karen O., front woman for the ever awesome Yeah Yeah Yeahs, has announced the release of her first solo album, Crush Songs. It will be released on September 8th in the UK and September 9th in the U.S. on The Strokes front man Julian Casablancas’ record label, Cult Records.

Karen O. shared this note on her website in relation to the album.

Karen O - Crush Songs

While this is technically Karen O.’s first solo album, she has previously composed and performed all of the songs on the soundtrack for the Spike Jonze film Where The Wild Things Are. The soundtrack included the song “All Is Love”, which she wrote with her Yeah Yeah Yeahs band mate Nick Zinner. The song was nominated for the “Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media” at the 2010 Grammy Awards. The song lost out to “Jai Ho” from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, which was composed by Allah-Rakha Rahman.

Karen O. also contributed a song to the Spike Jonze film Her, which was released in 2013. This song was nominated for the 2014 “Academy Award for Best Original Song”, before losing out to “Let It Go” from the Disney animated feature Frozen. Additionally, if you have not seen Where The Wild Things Are and/or Her do so immediately and without hesitation. You will not be disappointed.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their most recent album, Mosquito, in 2013. It was a critical success, being named 30th best album of the year by NME and 40th in Vice’s list of the Top Albums of 2013.
