Yucks – ‘High’ (Overblown Video Premiere)

New EP I’m Bored  Due Out This Autumn Via Struck Dum Records.

To me doing something for yucks, is doing something for the laugh. Aberdeen punks YUCKS certainly seem to be ones for a bit of a sense of humour, albeit a pretty dark one, as can be seen in the lyrics and video for their latest single ‘High’, which we are delighted to premiere above and will feature on their upcoming EP I’m Bored. It’s a two minute blast of lo-fi DIY pop punk glory that is a touch more polished than their previous material while the video sees singer Jess Connor having a serious problem with what looks like gum disease! Remember kids, always brush your teeth thoroughly.

Filmed by themselves as Connor is a freelance film maker, bassist Marius operated the camera and friend of the band Sophie Will did all the make up. Afterwards Jess Connor cut the clip together and home. Super DIY.

Connor had this to say about the track, “The track is about dealing with boredom and the endless struggle to be motivated and productive when your brain doesn’t do what normal people’s brains are supposed to do. This extends to a general theme for the entire I’m Bored EP, boredom, physical and mental illness combined with loneliness and general pains of becoming an adult. Musically we have taken a more technical and melodic turn since Margherita Sux, but we still approach writing with a degree of light hearted humour so we haven’t lost our bubblegum flavour and we think the record is still completely packed with straight up YUCKS attitude.”

The group have a mini Scottish tour lined up for this weekend. Check out the dates below!

17/06 @ Exodus, Aberdeen (Free gig)

18/06 @ Conroy’s Basement, Dundee
