Best new songs this week: Ob picks (5/4/24)

Wu-Lu by Ethan Barrett

Charli XCX // Club classics
Shared alongside ‘B2B‘ in anticipation of new album, BRAT, ‘Club classics’ is XCX’s most energetic work to date. Her recent Boiler Room set (featuring A. G. Cook, 1975’s George Daniel, Finn Keane and Doss) broke records, and it’s not hard to see why.

NxWorries // 86Sentra
With their second album under the NxWorries umbrella, Why Lawd?, arriving in June, Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge whet our appetites with the 1:36min ’86Sentra’. Paired with 2023 single, ‘Daydreaming‘, this is going to be an LP worth waiting for.

Wu-Lu // Daylight Song
Wu-Lu’s 2022 album, Loggerhead, is one for the ages and the return of the Brixton-raised artist is cause for celebration.

The Itch // Ursula
A 7 minute long debut single with no chorus? It’s a risky game but The Itch have pulled it off with an infectious cocktail of electronics and new romanticism, on ‘Ursula’.

Les Savy Fav // LIMO SCENE
Fourteen years since their last major release, Root For Ruin, Les Savy Fav are back in a big way: with a set at Chicago’s forthcoming Pitchfork Festival and ‘LIMO SCENE’. With three tracks now lifted from forthcoming album, OUI, LSF, Brooklyn’s finest are sharper than ever.

Victory Lap // Jealousy
Another debutant this week comes from Nottingham newcomers Victory Lap, who have shared the smokey noir pop of ‘Jealousy’. Touches of Pete Doherty‘s more refined delivery combine with the self-aware charm of Spang Sisters to make for an awfully enticing start.
