Rapidly rising Manchester duo piri & tommy have unearthed their latest single, the Y2K-inspired ‘bluetooth’.
The track is the fourth single they have dropped this year, and had already built up anticipation from fans after previews set to dance videos on TikTok went viral in the weeks leading up the release.
Having shot into the limelight with a constant slew of singles since 2021, their mixtape froge.mp3 propelled them to even greater heights and has seen piri & tommy become sensations among their largely Gen Z fanbase.
While their appeal does seem to have struck a chord with a younger audience, the lyrical inspirations behind ‘bluetooth’ borrow from early 2000s technological innovations, seemingly referencing dodgy dial-up connections and tangled landline cables as metaphors for past romantic failures.
The track’s sound also borrows from the atmospheric drum and bass style that was prevalent at the time, with a soft yet high bpm rhythm maintaining a high energy throughout, while piri’s almost whispered vocals seem carefree placed over the top.
piri also embarks on a solo tour of the UK in November, having previously impressed on the road earlier this year in the southern hemisphere, touring the festival circuit in Australia and New Zealand to rapturous response.
