boygenius, the supergroup consisting of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, have released a new video for ‘Cool About It’, one of the standout tracks from their critically acclaimed debut, the record.
The Paul Simon-inspired track is one of only a handful of cuts from the album where the three members share vocal duties, and portrays themes of a romantic relationship breaking down.
The animated visuals for the track, directed by illustrator and actor Lauren Tsai depict a relationship between a dog and its toy, anthropomorphised in such a way that shows the same love as in the lyrics where inability to communicate has led to the duo falling apart.
As one of the most emotionally impactful songs on an album that flits between arresting indie rock and tear-jerking folk, ‘Cool About It’ showcases the canny ability each of the songwriters have for penning strong stories that hit close to home, and the video perfectly mirrors this in its sombre tone.
