Leeds-based electronic collective HONESTY have announced their signing to Partisan with two singles, ‘U&I’ and ‘TUNE IN TUNE OUT’.
Having formed through impromptu sessions at recording studio Nave where core member Matt Peel works as a producer and is an integral founding part of operations, the group is completed by George Mitchell [Eagulls], Josh Lewis [Team Picture] and Imi Holmes. Fusing together aspects of their diverse influences, the two tracks showcase the group melding ambient elements with UK bass to generate a striking sound on both tracks.
‘U&I’, which features Holmes on lead vocals, opens with a decaying sample of what sounds like a train announcement that is swiftly followed by a jittering kick pattern, seemingly taking cues from Burial’s Untrue. The soft delivery of the vocals feels like more than just a textural addition due to the fact that they’ve been recorded specifically for the track, but float across the track in the same way they would if sampled in a lost garage classic.
‘TUNE IN TUNE OUT’ sees Mitchell take on vocal duties, layering his voice to add warmth to the synths that envelop the track. There’s shades of These New Puritans to his delivery, not to mention that the use of tuned percussion offers a more organic feel to the track than its counterpart, showcasing the desire that HONESTY have to explore the many facets of their inspiration.
HONESTY have also announced their first in-person live performances for this Autumn; tickets are available here.
