Speedy Wunderground share SXSW EP, featuring Enumclaw, Revival Season and alexalone

Speedy Wunderground releases SXSW EP featuring Enumclaw, Revival Season and alexalone

The trifecta of tracks land as part of the label’s 10th anniversary celebration.

Recorded by Speedy‘s Dan Carey and Pierre Hall at Austin’s 512 Studios during this year’s SXSW festival, SXSW EP consists of three original tracks from the US-based acts.

When the idea was conceived to put the EP together, Carey & Hall reached out to Washington risers Enumclaw and Heavenly Recordings signees Revival Season to arrange the sessions. Shortly after making the trip and arriving in Austin for the festival, the pair overheard alexalone‘s brand of fuzzy noise rock emanating from a barn where the band were rehearsing. The duo gatecrashed the rehearsal and suggested that alexalone become the third name to join the EP tracklisting.

SXSW EP opens with the confrontational hip-hop of Revival Season’s ‘Gold Teeth‘, whilst ‘Spots‘ by Enumclaw asserts their hybrid of no-wave and britpop. The three track release closes on ‘Unpacking My Feelings‘, on which alexalone channel their wall-of-sound shoegaze through a more sparse, post-rock lens.

“It was so good to be able to spread our wings and take Speedy transatlantic. And obviously as soon as we found out we were going to Austin we immediately started looking at studios,” Pierre says of the venture. “Some of these were actually recorded even quicker than the usual ones in London – often two in one day rather than one.”

SXSW, or South by Southwest, is an annual showcase/conference in Austin, Texas which – since its inception in the late 80s – has become a vital landmark for emerging artists to exhibit their sound to a global audience.
