Talk Show deliver ‘Closer’, their first single of 2023

talk show share new single closer

South London quartet Talk Show share new music for the first time since 2022, gearing up for an as-yet-unannounced debut album, slated for release in 2024.

A ferocious dose of indie-punk, ‘Closer’ is Talk Show‘s return to the limelight. Colourful synth and guitar motifs duel in the foreground, frontman Harrison Swann’s delivery monotone and dry. ‘Closer’ is trance-like and repetitive, with the quartet taking clear influence from the evolving nature of dance music and injecting it into their own marque of post punk.

Remi Kabaka, whose previous credits include Gorillaz’ Cracker Island, joins Talk Show on production duties.

“Utilising the repetition on ‘Closer’ allowed me to build a rhythm and raise the stakes and put new meaning into the line each time,” Swann says of the track. “Working with Remi really helped me harness how much nuance I could put into my phrasing, how much more powerful it could be to whisper than to shout. We wanted to take you from standing outside in the freezing cold straight into the heart of the sweatbox.”

Talk Show first emerged in 2019 with the track ‘Fast and Loud‘, which came out on YALA!; the label headed by The Maccabees‘ Felix White.
