Best new songs this week: Ob picks (3/5/24)

Promotional shot for Charlotte Day Wilson's album, Cyan Blue.

Madlib // REEKYOD (ft. Black Thought & Your Old Droog)
Legendary producer Madlib has dropped his first track since 2021, featuring Black Thought of The Roots and Ukrainian-American rapper Your Old Droog. ‘REEKYOD’ marks our first taster from new label Madlib Invazion (named after his 2000 EP), and it’s set a high standard for what’s to come.

HOMESHAKE // Nothing 2 See
Hot on the heels of recent album CD Wallet, HOMESHAKE is back with news that a follow-up LP, Horsie, will drop in June. In contrast to the sparsity of CD Wallet, ‘Nothing 2 See’ sees Peter Sagar returning to his patented brand of textured groove.

One of alternative music’s great breakthroughs over the past year, SPRINTS have dropped two surprise tracks, ‘HELP ME, I’M SPIRALLING’ and ‘DRONES’. As you might have guessed: both songs sound large.

Charlotte Day Wilson // Cyan Blue
The title track from Charlotte Day Wilson’s new album, ‘Cyan Blue’ is a transcendental piano ballad, showcasing Wilson’s beguiling alternative R&B songwriting. Cyan Blue is out now via her own label Stone Woman Music, in collaboration with XL Recordings.

Ebbb // Swarm
Much-hyped newcomers Ebbb have shared their first music proper: a double cut of ‘Swarm’ and ‘Himmel’. Surely one of the must-see names at this year’s edition of The Great Escape.

Lip Filler // CARLING
Who’d have thought that this sonic carnage was being cooked up somewhere in the depths of Somerset? ‘CARLING’ is a tantalising taster of Lip Filler’s forthcoming witchescrew EP, out later this month.
